Suppose then, that with my camera I have trained my mindand eye to see the trivialties of life. This would, of course,interest the trivial. Well, there comes to me one day an op-portunity to make a series of important prints, the successof which would enhance the value of photography. I haveskill and a good technique, then why should I not grasp thismy opportunity ? I begin the work, little thinking that my con-tinued indulgence in trivialties would ever disqualify me;until at the completion of my task I discover that my effortsat serious work have become a tragedy, and that as I hadnever organized my mind to see and to feel the finer anddeeper things of life I have elected myself to a negativeprinciple.
