FARROW NE of the most pleasing and gratifying productsof modern photography is the growing tendencyamong amateur photographers to take up thestudy of Nature work by means of the camera=Not so very long ago, Nature photography wasprincipally practised by a few specialists, and the impressionprevailed that more than ordinary skill and elaborate andexpensive apparatus were required for the work. It is veryinteresting to observe that each season a steadily increasingnumber of workers are devoting attention to hunting the deni-zens of the countryside with the camera instead of the gun—and are taking a wider interest in the portraying of all Naturesubjects. It is a form of camera work that soon becomes veryfascinating and has an abiding interest for its devotees. 112

JANE REECE. 113 The love of Nature is instinctive in most of us, although itis true that in many people it lies latent, but when we learn toapproach Nature, seeking for beauty and to find some of herhidden mysteries, we are amazed at the reward she spreadsbefore us. Familiar things take on new beauties and we wonderthat our eyes have been so long closed to them. To many thecamera has been the companion that has led them out, and littleby little awakened an appreciation of the beauties of Nature.
