nd herba-ceous perennials were arranged in theform of a rock garden, with a fewshrubs in the background and manyAlpines scattered in among the rocks,was awarded first prize with commend-ation; equal second prize was recom-mended for the group of Bobbink andAtkins, Rutherford, N. J., which wasmade up entirely of shrubs. Two other striking Roehrs exhibitswere a display of cut orchids, cover-ing 100 sq. ft., and a large group ofazaleas of striking colors, each vari-ety being named. Mrs. H. Darlington, of Mamaroneck,N. Y. (P. W. Popp, Gr.), showed 12forced lilacs, five feet in height, andcarrying fine flower; the plants of Ma-rie Legraye in this group were betterthan of Charles X. Class 340, staged on Saturday, a dis-play of cut roses, covering 200 sq, ft.and containing not less than 500 ormore than 1,000 blooms again broughtthe two Piersons to the front. Bothgroups were well arranged but P. R.Pierson Co.s group containing 1,000cut blooms deserved the first prize of$200 which it received.
