It has seemed difficult for the noviceto appreciate that in unfiltered superficial work the therapeutic effect is independentof quality and depends on quantity. Thatis, whether a 6 inch gap or a 9 inch gapis used makes no difference so long as thedose is correct. This is not absolutelytrue, for there are instances where it isadvisable to employ a verj penetratingray, but in the majority of diseases, whilethere is a large theoretical difference, itis of no practical importance. For variousreasons there is a limit to spark gaplengths in both directions, but for mostskin diseases the length of the gap is oflitte importance providing it is not tooshort, say not shorter than 5 or 6 inches,and that the amount of rays administeredare carefully estimated. BPtLATl/l/C OtfSt Arithmetical Computation of Roentgen Dosage 607 DISCUSSION Dr. Pusey thought that Dr. MacKee wasentitled to great credit for working out atechnic for giving a measured dose of roentgenrays with accuracy. It was an entirelypractical method, and in Dr. Puseys opinionwas a very useful step in the development ofthe technic of roentgen ray dosage. Dr. Wise said he had been fortunateenough to be associated with Dr. MacKee andhad watched his work and enjoyed his teach-ing, and had used his technic for some timewith very successful results. He thought itwas impossible for a man who had not doneany roentgen work in the last jcars to applythis technic and use it with any great amountof judgment without preliminary study. Dr.MacKee was working on a book which wouldnot only give the arithmetical rules, but wouldtell when to use the proper amount of dosagein the various diseases of the skin. Whenthat was obtainable,
