rmer. This sphere gap wasconnected on the alternating side of therectifier, which was temporarily removedfrom the circuit in order to prevent anyerrors due to surges from sparks. The crest meter was then adiusted bymeans of the variable resistance forming apart of the instrument, until the kilovoltreading of the meter corresponded to theindication on the sphere gap. The rectifier in the x-ray machine undertest was then connected and, with theCoolidge tube used as a load, variousreadings were taken.
