The appli-cation of the x-rays to the study of thegastrointestinal tract has been no exceptionto the general rule, and great have beenthe resulting advances in the diagnosis ofabdominal disorders; so much so that alaparotomy ceases to be the usual de-scription of an abdominal operation, andthe surgeon now opens the abdomen witha very shrewd idea as to what he is going symptoms emanate from the stomach, foreveryone now realizes that the stomach is,more often than not, just the fuse boxthat responds to faults at any point in thecomplicated system that deals with diges-tion, including the nervous system, and theextraordinarily varied psychological factorsthat act through the mentality of thesubject.
