The .r-ray room was very small andone of the high tension wires from thetransformer to the tube had been allowed tosag lower and lower until in the course ofa fluoroscopic examination, while Dr.Jaugeas had his hand upon the metal knobintended for controlling the movements ofthe tube, contact was established betweenthe high-tension wire and the tube stand, which was not earthed, causing a directshort circuit from the main feed wirethrough the transformer to our unfortunatefriend, who fell with his hand still graspingthe tube holder which he pulled down withhim. The tragic death of Jaugeas is an inter-national loss; born in 1880, son of a villageschool-teacher, he acquired in his home thelove of work and study which always ani-mated him. Greatly beloved among hisFrench confreres, his loss was especially felt 168 Editorials by his chief, that dean of radiologists, Dr.A. Beclere. He was first trained in physicsand pharmacy, and in 1903 was appointedpharmaceutical interne of the Hospitals ofParis.
