nt4\ a IC SOUTH DAKOTA Climate and Rainfall.— This State is notedclimatically for its abundance of sunshine. Fromweather bureaus (1903) the following interest-ing facts appear: Dodge, Kan., has 193 cleardays: Denver, Colo., 188; and Huron, S. Dak.,264 fair or clear days; while Buffalo, N. Y., hadbut 44 such days. No Northern State has fewercloudy days. The mean yearly temperature iniq02 was 44.8 degrees and s higher than eitherMinnesota or New Hampshire, which have re-spectively 38 and 26yi degrees. Rainfall aver-ages over 30 inches, but is much more in theeastern section of the State, where it exceeds30 in some years. The air is dry in winter and alow temperature is endured without much suf-fering. The Chinook winds from the Pacificwarm currents modify the temperature veryperceptibly. The State is seldom visited in re-cent years with those bitter northern blastsdriving fine flour like snow in the face of aterrific wind.
