Nurseries, Kochester, N. Y., an-nounce a new Pear—the Souvenir duCongres. It was exhibited by them forthe first time in this country, at thegreat Pomological Exhibition at Bos-ton, last fall. It attracted great atten-tion for its large size, fine form, supe-rior quality, and earliness. The tree isvigorous and productive. The fruit islarger than Bartlett or Clapps Favor-ite. The skin is smooth, bright yellow,when the fruit is fully matured, andred toward the sun. The flesh, whileit is very like the Bartlett, has a less de-fined musky flavor, and it is firm to thecore. It commences to ripen in NewYork State about the first of August,before the Bartlett, and extends intoSeptember. Following are some new Pears deem-ed worthy of cultivation by Hon. Mar-shall P. Wilder: Harris.—Size above medium; formovate pyriform, resembling in generalappearance the Beurre Hardy; stem oneinch or more in length, frequently in-serted angularly and without much de-pression; color golden russet, at matur-

Madame Henri Desporte. — Sheabove medium, broadly turbinate; eyepartly closed, in a deep narrow basin;stem short and thick, set on one side ofa lip; skin rather thick, almost entirelycovered with cinnamon russet on a yel-low ground; flesh white, very finegrained, free from grit, juicy and but-tery, very sweet and rich, with a very-slight astringency; season last of Octo-ber and first of November; keeps well;quality very good to best; resemblesBeurre Bosc in color, texture, and qual-ity; tree a fine grower and productive.This variety is from seed by Andre Le-roy, of Angers, Franc
