Xos. 1 and 2, madetwenty-one sixteenths of an inch longover all, and run in an adjustable anglehandpiece, are used to remove cariousbone from sockets. Aluminum finger-rest knobs are placedon the handles of the instrument pointshere illustrated—and as mentioned onpage 300 of the 1912 Transactions ofthe Xational Dental Association; theyallow of sterilization by heat, and givethe necessary power to the points andside blades of the instruments by theirbeing brought very nearly within thecircumference of the knobs, which alsoincrease accuracy of touch by extendingthe surface of contact with spatulatednerve fibrils on which the tactile senseat the tips of fingers depends. Perish-able knobs have heretofore been used. same purpose only around the roots ofupper anterior teeth. Angle burs ofusual length lack reach.
