During the troublesome timesof 1851 its awful tones gave signal forthe assembling of the Vigilance Commit-tee and tolled the death knells of thosewhose lives were cut short by the irre-vocable decrees of that arbitrary body.It was the first bell, used for public pur-poses, ever raised in the city of SanFrancisco. VOLUNTEER ENGINE CO. NO. 7. Was organized June 20, 1854, byMessrs. Caleb Clapp, Wm. S. Locke,F. W. Macondray, John S. Eels, Chas.F. Dunmore and others. The engine-house was on Pine street, between Mont-gomery and Sansome streets, near towhere Franks saloon now is. H SAN FRANCISCO FIREMEN PACIFIC ENGINE CO. NO. 8.
