(n. sp.).This genus seems to be very rich in forms inSouth Africa, from whence a considerable numberare already known, and the present new speciesadds one more to the list. It is very similar inhabit to C dependens, N. E. Brown, but has thecolours of the flowers exactly reversed, and of atotally different coronal structure. It has beensent to Kew by Mr. N. S. Pillans, who discoveredit in the Clanwilliam district. HARDY CYPRIPEDIUMS. (Continued from p. 308.)C. candidum.—This is a dainty little plant,closely resembling C. montanum, but muchsmaller. It must be regarded as too fragile foroutdoor cultivation, and would succeed in pansin a cold frame or in the alpine-house. Theleaves are narrowly lanceolate, slightly hispid,clothing a stem C inches high, which bears oneto three flowers, less than an inch in diameter,the petals and sepals of which are pale brown.The slipper is very small, generally white, orwith a faint pink flush throughout.
