-ou escape tiie judgment of hell ? 34 Therefore behold I send to you pro-phets, and wise men, and scribes: andsome of them you will put to death andcrucify, and some you will scourge in yoursynagogues, and persecute from city to city. 35 *That upon you may come all thejust blood that hath been shed upon theearth, from the blood of Abel the just,even unto the blood of Zacharias the sonof Baracliias, whom you killed between thetemple and the altar. 36 Amen I say to you, all these thingsshall come upon this generation. 37 Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou thatkillest the prophets, and stonest them thatare sent unto thee, how often would I havegathered togetiier thy children, as the hengatliereth her ciiickens under her wings,and thou wouldst not? 38 Behold your house shall be left to youdesolate. 39 For I say to you, you shall not seeme henceforth till you say: Blessed is hethat Cometh in the name of the Lord. yhh

Not that they should siifTer more than their own sins richly deserved : butthat the justice of (Joii should now fall upon them with such a final vengeance, once for all, as might compriseall the dillerent kinds of judgments and punishments, that had at any lime before been inflicted for the sheddingof just blood.
