Text Appearing Before Image:
have found Sandpipers eggs withina yard of the edge of a lake, on a smallgravelly island not over six inchesabove the water in its highest part.Another queer situation was on a pileof drift wood and debris, while anothernest was on a log and quite a foot fromthe ground. A great many nests of this specieshave come to my notice, but the mostpeculiar instance was the finding oftwo equally incubated sets in nests notover four feet apart. ■ Eleven nests ofthis species were found in one field nextto a mill pond by two boys during MayJune and July. Peet weet feeds on worms, aquaticinsects and small moUusks, and is un-doubtedly beneficial. It is too small belooked upon as game. But though be-neath the notice of upright gunners itstill oflers attractions to observers whoare interested in a study of our birds, and I know of very few of our feather-ed associates who offer a better oppor-tunity for investigation than our littleacquaintance. Tip-up. MOKRIS GiBBS, Kalamazoo, Mich. 84 THE OOLOGIST.
