It is the center of the bestgold quartz mining region of the State, and hasthe largest Protestant Church (Methodist Epis-copal) in the Sierra Mountains. It lias also aCongregational Church, Roman Catholic, Epis-copal and Christian or Campbellite. Until re-cently, it had two banks, but at present has none.It is the center of large lumber, fruit and min-ing interests, has a daily paper, the Union,*and one weekly, the Fo>lhili Tidinys. This city as well as Nevada, is reached fromColfax by the narrow gauge i-ailroad, on whichtwo trains connect daily with the trains of theCentral Pacific.
