Near thisstation is Gi-ants Cave fromwhich stalactitesmay be obtain-ed, and otherrelics, said to beremains of Indians who were conquered andpenned in until they died. A personal exam-ination will satisfy the tourist as to the proba-ble truth of this tradition. The company has alarge hotel at Lake Point containing 35 roomsfor guests, besides other necessary appurtenancesto a good hotel. A wharf has been built intothe lake, beside which, when not employed, thestern wheel steamer, General Gaifield, ismoored. LIONS HEAD KOCK.—GREAT SALT LAKE. 150 the wharf, where conveniences for a salt waterbath are kept. The waters of the lake are verydense, and it is ahnost impossible for bathers tosink. In former times three barrels of waterwonld make by evaporation, one barrel of salt;now four barrels of water are required to effectthe same result. A company has been organizedin Salt Lake City, to manufacture salt from thewaters of this lake near Millstone Point, andvats are to be erected the present year. An ex-cellent quality can be made and sacked—readyfor market for $4.50 per ton. Half-Way House^—25 miles from SaltLake City, and Tooele Station 37 miles are thenext stations an 1 termini of the road. Grant-ville is one of the richest agricultural townsof Utah. Stages leave here for the miningcamps on the western slope of the mount-ains, and a large amount of freighting is donewith teams to and from the mines.
