rich developments and everyprospect of success. The ore is gold, silver andargentiferous galena. Antelope District is 16 miles away, in a west-erly direction ; Geneva District is 21 miles dis-tant, in a north-westerly direction; both of theseare but little developed. one and one-half miles distant from the McWor-thy Mines. They wore formerly known as theWright and Egbert Mines. This company havea new patented process for refining the crudeore, which they claim has a capacity of ten tonsper day, and producing an article which theyfurther claim is superior to that manufacturedby any other process yet known. The ore, as itcomes from the mine, is a mixture of sulphur,clay, gypsum, water, etc., and the trouble hasheretofore been to separate them perfectly andcheaply. This company fuses the crude or mixedore by* heat, and then separates them by a chemi-cal process which is claimed to be very simple,producing the brimstone of commerce, nearly100 per cent. fine. The deposits lie in the hills,

TWO BITS TO SEE THE PAPPOOSE. The sulphur mines are 30 miles away, in anorth-westsrly direction. Very large deposits ofnative sulphur are found in these mines whichwill average nearly 75 per cent. pure. There aretwo mines opened. One called the McWorthyMine, located and developed by Mr. McWorthy,is now operated by a San Francisco company.The product of this mine is refined by retorts,three in number, which are now in active opera-tion, and which are capable of producing aboutthree tons per day of twenty-four hours. Themines of the Pacific Sulphur Company are about and are found from 20 to 100 feet thick. Theyare also found in some of the adjoining valleys,but are not as pure in the valleys as in the hills.They are covered with ashes and mixed with ex-traneous matter. In fact, wherever these de-posits come to the surface, they are covered withashes, nearly white in color, indicating that atsome period, they were on fire, and that the firewas extinguished—smothered—by the accumu-lat
