The first reg-ular stationafter leaving thesummit is 5.8miles west, called Cascade,—239 miles fromSan Francisco. The vertical de-scent from thesummit to thispoint is 498 feet, and nothinghere will checkones readinessto descend far-ther, for it isonly a signalstation, andthere are noneto signal, ex-cept such as are employed on the road.
