Description
Deutsch: Im Hintergrund links kriecht der heilige Johannes Chrysostomos (Goldmund, um 354-407). Im ausgehenden Mittelalter entstand über den Kirchenvater der Ostkirche die antiklerikale Legende vom Einsiedler in der Wüste. Eine Königstochter soll sich in die Höhle des Heiligen verirrt haben und darauf Mutter eines Kindes geworden sein. Für dieses Vergehen, nach dem ihn kein späterer Papst kanonisiert hätte, sollte Chrysostomos das schmähliche Gelübde erfüllen, unbekleidet und auf allen Vieren kriechend dem Ende seiner Tage zu harren.[1]
