ce. Neverbefore had he watched an entire day wheelfrom dark to dark, from sunrise to dusk! The morning had been born in a cold,clear, rosy glow, a widening of light andthen the pale stream of sunlight. At noonthe shadows gathered under the trees, and atdusk they crept out toward the east andmerged and floated up to the pure greensky. His back and legs ached and burnedwith fatigue.
