Text Appearing Before Image:
preached again, and ateight oclock Mr. Fukao, a Japanesecatechist, preached to the Japanese. Next morning you would, if you hadbeen there, have seen a pleasant sight. There is a public school with 300 chil-dren in attendance a hundred yardsaway. A number of these come to churchwith Mr. Krolls day-school at 8:30every morning and have a delightfulchoral service which the children like toattend. When I was last in Lahaina, I madearrangements to get a piece of land onthe beach where it is cool, and on thiswe hope to build a parsonage when themoney comes. I am glad that the Board appointedMr. Kroll to Lahaina. He says thework is just what he wanted. All thechildren know him. The Junior Auxil-iaries of Honolulu have given him asecond-hand piano for the parish halland that is just what is wanted, for Mr.Kroll is a trained musician ^and the chil-dren of Hawaii love music. Mr. Krollsays that the people of Lahaina have noamusements and he believes that whole-some amusements are good for people.
Text Appearing After Image:
110 With the Boys and Girls of Maui He will use the hall in providing them.A Ohurchwoman in New York gave hima stereopticon and that will he a finething when he can get it out of hisboxes and he is able to give up the stageas a sleeping room. If you walk up the street with Mr.Kroll, as I did, you will find that hespeaks to every Chinese, Japanese,Korean and Hawaiian girl or boy that hemeets. .They all know him, as do themen also. The children bom in Lahaina areAmerican boys and girls, beoauseHawaii is just as much a territory of theUnited States as Arizona is. Mr. Krollsays: I never saw children so eager tolearn. At one of the services on theSunday mentioned, I baptized anHawaiian boy. The name given wasWeymouth Leopold Anainahookipa —Weymouth, after the Rev. Dr.Weymouth; Leopold, after Mr. Kroll, and the Hawaiian word means re-ception, in remembrance of the recep-tion given to me the night before.Speaking of names, often the clergyhere find it difficult to pronounce thenames given.
