But one tank is discharged at a time, thesecond tank being reserved, to be discharged when the first isexhausted and is being refilled, thus maintaining a continuousstream; a priceless advantage in checking incipient confla-grations. RECHARGING As one pressure tank becomes exhausted action in the otheris started by turning its crank, and as the pressure rapidly risesthe hose lines are cut off from the first one and thrown on itinstantly by the valves. The gas is then blown off from theempty tank by a drain valve and pipe, which leads down throughthe floor, the cap is unscrewed and the empty acid holder liftedout of its cradle and set one side. One of the little canistersholding a charge of 50 lbs. of soda is then emptied into the caphole, a 3-in. pipe with a gate valve fills up the pressure tank

The car is further equipped with two grappling poles,having a chain at the rear end whereby a car may be hauled outof danger. These are carried on hooks on the walls above thewindows.
