Each of thepoles, which are 35 ft. long and havei2-in. butts, carries in addition tothe bracket three cross-arms. Thetwo upper arms near the top of thepole are reserved for high-tensionlines and the ground wires protect-ing these. The third cross-arm islocated just below the trolley armand carries the telephone lines and llie feeder, and space is also reserved for telegra))hlines. The trolley arni, as may be observed in thedrawing, consists of a piece of wood measuring ^AX 21/2 ins. X 9 ft. long. It is fastened to the poleby two braces which encircle half the pole and pre-vent the arm from being twisted sidewise. The outer endof the trolley arm is supported by a 5-16-in. galvanized iron

These consistof No. 6 iron wire and are grounded at every tenth pole bya lead which passes to the earth alongside the pole and ter-minates in a lo-ft. rod driven into the ground. (Vol. XXVIIL No. 8. wires are tied to the porcelain insulators supporting them insuch a manner that the ends of the tie wires or pig-tails aretwisted together and are pointed upward to serve as dis-charging points. The high-tension wires are tied withoutthis upward projecting end. Those poles at which the groundwires are run to the earth are termed special poles.
