An examination of these figures for steam and electric serviceshows in every case a decreased cost per mile, an increase inschedule speeds, and a very large increase in traffic. In consid-ering the decrease in cost per mile with electric over steamoperation in the above comparisons, the fact of the increasedspeed must be especially noted as the higher rate of acceleration

Electric operation data is kept per car mile, but thecosts are so involved between the street car and elevated sys-tems as to make an exact figure impossible to reach, the powerfor both systems being generated and distributed without meansof separate measurement.
