Continuing northward Intothe next curtain, we enter the foreign exhibits, a display shared byMexico, Great Britain, Belgium, Germany, Trinidad, Japan, Canadaand Australia. The tropical countries show to visitors wonderfulvegetation of rarest beauty. Trinidad has orchids, ferns andpalms surrounding a great gilt lion of sculptured beauty, whichguards the north end of the curtain. Australias plants are asstrange as her animals and attract universal attention. Japanshows a number of the wonderful dwarf trees, oaks, pines andothers, perfect in every detail, hundreds of years old, yet growingin small flower-pots and extending but a few feet in height. Thetrunks are o^narled and roueh as those of forest oflants, and theeffect produced is as if one were looking through the small endof a spy-glass toward one of pur own American monsters.
