In front of the temple is a court-yard wherelieaps of stones arc lying scattered about. Oneis tempted to think that tliese are the ruins of aXatamandira. Human skulls having been foundliere, there is a popular belief that formerlyhuman sacrilices were offered here in largenumbers l^efore the goddess. There aretraces here and there of the Kurumbera(enclosures) which existed in early times round Mayurabhanja Archaeological Survey.

To thisfact probably the village owes its name Nara-mundali (the place of human sacrifices).
