the moun-tain, and David and his men on that side ofthe mountain: and David made haste to getaway for fear of Saul; for Saul and his mencompassed David and his men round aboutto take them. 27 IT But there came a messenger unto Saul,saying. Haste thee, and come; for the Philis-tines have invaded the land. 28 Wherefore Saul returned from pursuingafter David, and went against the Philis-tines: therefore they called that place Sela-hammah-lekoth. 29 IT And David went up from thence, anddwelt in strong holds at En-gedi. CHAPTER 24. 1 David in a cave at En-gedi, having cut off Saidsskirt, spareth his life. 8 He sheweth thereby hisinnocency. 16 Saul, acknowledging his fault,taketh an oath of David, and departeth. AND it came to pass, when Saul was re-xX turned from following the Philistines,that it was told him, saying, Behold, Davidis in the wilderness of En-gedi. 2 Then Saul took three thousand chosen menout of all Israel, and went to seek David andhis men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

Then Davidarose, and cut off the skirt of Sauls robeprivily. 5 And it came to pass afterward, that Davidsheart smote him, because he had cut off Saulsskirt. 6 And he said unto his men, The Lord for-bid that I should do this thing unto mymaster, the Lords anointed, to stretch forthmine hand against him, seeing he is theanointed of the Lord. 7 So David stayed his servants with thesewords, and suffered them not to rise againstSaul. But Saul rose up out of the cave,and went on his way. 8 IT David also arose afterward
