We find also in thiscabinet a very small oval portrait bust of the poetConstantyn Huygens, by Caspar Netscher, whose Mothers Cares/ one of his best pictures, hangsnear; also two little panels by van Slingeland, ofminiature execution, of which A Family Musi-cale is of his first period, showing some weaknessin the drawing of the figures, but exquisite in de-tails. Of especial interest are two Gerard Dous. TheCurious One shows a young girl, leaning outof a window, with a lighted lamp in her hand. The^ Evening School is, however, of greater interest,because of the difference of opinion it has createdamong connoisseurs. Some claim it to be one ofhis most famous works, excelling in its minutedetails and its remarkable management of the lighteffect, the school-room being illuminated by fivecandles. In thiscabinet are also found three examples by the lastpainter of the 17th century school, Adriaen van derWerff, in whose work the decadence and final de-composition of that glorious art may be recognized.
