Text Appearing Before Image:
Adult male. Exactly like E. flaviventris in the colouring of the head,neck and mantle ; but differing in the lower back being washed with thesame shade of rufous as the mantle; and in the entire absence of white onthe wing-coverts, which, like the quills, are dark brown, with paler brownedges; under surface of body yellow with only the under tail-coverts white. Iris brown ; bill blackish, paler beneath; legs greyish horn colour.Total length 5-3 inches, culmen 0-4, wing 2-75, tail 2-4, tarsus 0-7. <? , 26,5. 83. Kuterma (Emin). Swainsons Golden-breasted Bunting inhabits Senegambia,the White Nile and Sennaar. Swainson first recorded and figured this species from aSenegambian example; but believing it to be a female of apreviously described S. African Bunting he called it Fri7i-giUaria capensis. Specimens have also been collected in thiscountry at Casamanse and Bissao. Inland from the Gold CoastCaptain Gifford procured a specimen at Gambaga, July 20, THE BIRDS OF AFRICA. PL.XXJIl. \ \

l.Embenza poliopleura.2 .rringillaria impetuani. EMBERIZA POLTOPLEURA I49 1898, and Capt. Boyd Alexander met with the species at thesame place, February 2, 1901. In the Upper White Nile district Emin obtained the typeof Fringillaria forhesi at Langomeri (3° 30 N. lat. 31° 5 B.long.) and one of his specimens is now in the British Museum,from Kuterma. Antinori also met with the species near theGazelle river. Heuglin described the type of Emheriza affinis, from Sennaar,in the collection of Prince Paul of Wurttemburg, as distin-guished from its allies by the absence of white on the wing-coverts.
