Photoby theAuthor THE TRAILL FLYCATCHER. 331 bird loves brushy swamps and lowland thickets. In a suitable swamp of a fewacres it may abound, so that one writer has stated, rather extravagantly, thatit nests in colonies. On the other hand it may be entirely wanting for miles

Altho nests of this species have been fiequently found of late, com-paratively little systematic work has been done upon its life history. The birdreaches Ohio about the second week in May (Columbus, May 5th, is an earlyrecord, possibly of B- t. alnorum), raises one brood and disappears early inSeptember. Authorities-differ, as usual, in the interpretation of the notes:Whit-te-ar, and later in the season Hoyt-te-ar were what Dr. Wheatonheard. An energetic szvee-chee or swee-chu suits most. An early migrant atColumbus once startled me with a most emphatic enunciation, Zivee-bew andonce again zzve.e-bezv, zweet. This bird was evidently not B- hammondi, buthe had acquired the precise accent of the western species. No. 144.LEAST FLYCATCHER. A. O. U. No. 467. Empidonax minimus Ba
