y. When rabbits and Guinea pigs are kept in largenumbers and the quarters are not well cared for, aninfectious pneumonia or blood-poisoning often breaksout among them and destroys large numbers. In casesuch a disease appears, the uninfected animals shouldbe removed to a clean, dry place. The old quartersshould be thoroughly cleaned, then disinfected with a5 per cent solution of carbolic acid, and after beingthoroughly dried should be whitewashed or paintedbefore other animals are placed in them. PET POULTRY Most children are fond of pet animals. The pets arenot only a source of much enjoyment but are of realeducational value. Pet animals instil a love for natureand a respect for the feelings and rights of other Pet Poultry 47 beings. The necessary feeding, handling and caredevelop the feeling of responsibility that is of greatimportance in the training of children. The essentialrequirements in childrens pets are that they should bedocile, attractive, cleanly and easily cared for. They
