l in negociations, foreign and domestick,eminent for piety, charity, loyalty and prudence. Aninhabitant 26 years, and bountiful benefactor to thisparish. He dyed the 22nd day of August, 1650, aged84 years. Near Pindars, is a nicely sculptured memorial of An-drew Willaw, Esq. He left money to the parish in theyear 1700. Another tablet records the burial of the Rev. W. Cony-beare, D. D, who was rector of the parish during fortyyears, and died April 5, 1815. The tablet most recentlyerected, was put up by the inhabitants of the parish, inmemory of Arthur Clarke, ward clerk. He deceased,August 22, 1834, aged forty-four years. steeple, is of brick-work, with stone dressings ; the steepleitself is of stone. The lower story of it presents a pedi-ment and entablature supported on doric pilasters, havingbetween them a large arched window, which lights thechancel. Above the pediment,—a position open to manyobjections,—rises a square tower in three compartments,the lowest of which, or that next the pediment, has pilas-ters at the angles bearing capitals of peculiar and elegantdesign ;—they take the form of trusses to support a corniceabove. The upper story, ( presenting Ionic pilasters and 5 ST. BOTOLPHS, BISHOPSGATE. entablature) is surmounted by a small composite temple,surrounded at the base by a circular balustrade. In the burial ground ■ attached to the church, is a largeand elaborate monument in memory of Sir William Raw-lins, who left the sum of £ 1000 to the parish school.Rawlins was born July 24, 1752, served the office ofSheriff of London in 1801, 2, and died in LiverpoolStreet, March 26, 1838.
