In thisway it is possible to have all the records in the office of theforeman or superintendents while they are being made.Many plants, however, do not have the instruments so placed,because if they are going to get the greatest efficiency out oftheir men, it is well to let the workers see just what kindof a record they are making while on duty. The foremenshould be around to see the men from time to time, so thereis no great advantage gained by having the gauges gatheredtogether in his office, or that of some suj)erior official. Thesuperintendent of a large plant has other duties than watch-ing gauges in operation. His clerk should gather the recordsand call his notice to any bad reports or unusual showingswhich need attention.
