In Bifhop Edindons Regifter at Winchefter, is a com-miftlon dated 1346, for reconciling Camberwell church which had beenpolluted by bloodfhed . Portraits on Glafs (glass) in Camberwell Church (of the mulchamp family of Peckham). CAMBERWELL. 73 from the alfles, proves that it could not have been built at a much earlier period ; and it is probable that the north aifle was built in1520, having that date in the eaft window. The chancel appears tobe of the fame age; it is of a fingular form, being the fedlion of anhexagon. The fouth-weft part of the church was much enlarged inthe year 1786.—The new building is of brick. The eaft window of the north aifle contains feveral portraits paint- Portraits in the window on glafs. Aubrey defcribes them as a man kneeling at a fald- of the northftool, and his ten fons behind him ; and a woman kneeling in like manner, with her ten daughters. The window has been much mutilated ; the heads, however, of all the men, and nine of the women,remain : fome of the principal figures are given In the annexed plate, coloured after the originals.
