Muirhead received an ap-pointment as teacher in Crieff Academy, and thisterminated his connection with Lothian Road MissionSabbath School. A worthy successor in the office ofSuperintendent of the Sabbath School was, however,found in the person of Mr Arnot, of whom more willbe said hereafter. A missionary society had been part and parcel ofthe church organisation since it came to Lothian Roadin 1831, but it got a new lease of life in 1871, with arevised Constitution. Its annual meeting was anevent of outstanding importance, and many famousmen have spoken at it. It is interesting to note thatthe annual meeting held in i860 was addressed bythe Rev. R. S. Drummond of St James Place, theworthy father of the future minister of the congrega-tion. It was in 1871 that the series of Sabbath eveningmeetings first commenced.
