ten assuming the most grotesque positions, hanging beneath thebranches and searching with most critical eye every possible hiding-place that could shelterits prey. This bird is perfectly safe if placed in the aviary, as it is not dangerous to the other birds. When first caught it should be placed in a cage for a few days, and fed upon any live insectsand mealworms and gentles, adding whole hemp-seed and some pieces of shelled nuts, walnutsor Spanish nuts being preferable; in other respects it should be fed and treated as recommendedfor the Great Tit. The Cole Tit is another common bird about the size of the preceding, principally foundin woods and small plantations; it is also particularly active and indefatigable in its search forinsects. The Cole Tit is a pretty little aviary pet, and may be made exceedingly tame. Onenow in our aviary of Tits has been fed for the last five years upon the food recommended forthe Great Tit. It is very fond of bathing. Cassells Canaries and Cage. Birds.

Though from the amountof dusky brown in its plumage it is not so striking as the foregoing Tits, yet it is a prettylittle bird, and enlivens the aviary with its continuous twittering and restless activity. TheMarsh Tits at present in our aviary have been fed for the last five years in the same way asrecommended for the Great Tit. The Bearded Tit, unlike the rest of this tribe, generally frequents reeds and sedges, climbing up them in search of insects or the seeds. They are very handsome birds, having thewhole of the upper
