thodist readers, made use ofthe best material he could find, animatingthe whole with his own spirit of devotionand practical piety. The career of Doctor Coke was nowdrawing to a close. In January of theyear 1811 he lost his first wife, and wasleft restless and disconsolate; at the closeof the year he married again. His sec-ond wife, a Miss Ann Don dale, of Diver-pool, highly esteemed in Methodist cir-cles for her works of charity, but of pre-carious health, died a year after theirmarriage; and she was buried beside hisfirst wife in the family vault at Brecon.It was his desire that his remains shouldbe placed there, in whatever corner ofthe globe he chanced to die; but the cir-cumstances of his death made this im-possible. In June, 1813, we find him writing toa friend from the preaching-house, Dub-lin: I am now dead to Europe, andalive for India. God himself has said tome: Go to Ceylon.
