sited Titi-caca but occasionally and saw only certain portions of it.Else how could they be silent in regard to such ruins as thePilco-kayma and Pucara 1 I beg to return once more to the suggestion that theChincana may have been an abode for women living incompulsory retirement. Of the six beautiful ponchosacquired by the Museum with the Garces collection, fivewere found buried in the vicinity of Chucaripu-pata andTitikala. The tissues are of extraordinary beauty andsolidity, patterns as well as colors are exceptionally fine.Concurrent testimony of the Spanish chroniclers is to theeffect that such work was mostly performed by women liv-ing in seclusion and that it was part of their duties.* ilVJ aTA>iTrrjfi8 lo viiaiaiv ni bautyi isvlia xii R«(tii^9lo SB 1)981/ ,-i9vIia -So eeiiJ^ft oIuM .0 ,^ :<1 Plate LVIlObjects in silver found in vicinity of Sacred Rock 1, 2. The colors were given to the wool before itwas spun, and the thread twirled by hand, men sometimesassisting the women in this workJ^ I still have to allude to several large stones, all of ande-site, one of which is to-day at the hacienda of Challa, in thecourtyard of its buildings, and the others are found at thegarden of the same hacienda. The former measures fivefeet in len
