f the wood very white : the nut is aboutthe fize, or rather lefs than the black Walnut, of an oval form, theoutermoft fhell being rough. Noyer de la Caroline. J ES branches de cet Arbre sétendent davantage, font plus menues, & fisfeuilles font plus étroites que celles du noyer blanc de la Virginie : finéeorce neft pas non plus fi ridée. Ses fruits ne font que le quart des autres,Es? leurs coques font très minces ; de forte quon les peut aifiment caffer avecles doigts : la chair en eft douce ; mais comme il y en a peu, cïf quelle eftcouverte dune peau très amere, il ny a que les écureuils, Es? quelques autresanimaux fauvages qui sen accommodent. Je dois encore obferver une autre efpece de Noyer, que je nai jamais vuquà la Virginie, quon appelle en ce pays là Noyer blanc. Cet Arbre eftordinairement petit : lécorce fi? le bois en font fort blancs : le fruit eftà peu près de la groffeur de ceui du noyer noire, Es? dune forme ovale: fonenveloppe extérieure eft raboteiife.
