Travelling Winch. traversed by groups of camels and donkeys amid the crowds offoot passengers, for the Barrage serves the double purpose ofbridge and weir. On our left, that is, up-stream, were the sluices,which are raised or lowered, as occasion may require, by a travel-lino; winch, which runs on rails, and thus serves all the sluicesbetween the eastern and the central gateway. Beyond this cen-tral gateway a second travelling winch performs the same officein respect of the remaining sluices of the Daniietta branch.
