Abstract: Print shows "Cumberland" getting off last shots before rolling onto its side and sinking; the ironclad "Virginia", formerly the "Merrimack", approaches from the side, firing on the sinking ship. Sailors who have abandoned ship are being rescued by nearby small sailboats and rowboats. Physical description: 1 print : hand-colored lithograph ; sheet 25.5 x 35.7 cm. Notes: Caption continues: The "Cumberland" went down with all her Flags flying: destroyed, but not conquered. Her gallant Commander Lieut. Morris, calling to his crew "Give them a Broadside boys, as she goes."; Traces of the copyright statement are visible, though most was rubbed off the stone.; Title from item.; Stamped on verso: L.C.
