The track is spiked on ties laid 14inches from center to center, held secure by brace chairson cur\es, with steel guard rails, to make derailment end will be anchored and the power turned on to pull■them taut. Washers will then be fitted to the draw bars,making the whole train pull evenly- and stop as one car.The platforms over the truck are 11 feet 6 inches by 3feet I inch for the slow or outside platform, and 11 feet6 inches by 5 feet 10 inches for the fast ones. The fastmoving platforms are provided with seats (see illustration)which will seat three adults and a child each. Each fastplatform will carry four seats. The slow platforms areavailable for passengers who wish to travel slowly .andstand up. The flexible rail, the open sesame and keystone ofthe system is J^ inch thick by 4 inches high of mildsteel. VIEW ON THE PLATFORM OF THE PIER SIDEWALK. impossible. On this rail runs a single line of trucks forthe fast and slow moving platforms. These trucks, aswell as the other rolling stock, are made by the PullmanPalace Car Company. The motor cars have 6-inchchannel steel frames, 11 feet 2/4 inches long by 7 feet 3inches wide. The motor platforms carry two ballastreceptacles of a capacity of 1,600 pounds of lead each,making the total weight about six tons. The trail carshave rigid wood frames and weigh, including seatingplatforms, 2,800 pounds each. The wheels under thetrucks are chilled steel, made by Griffin, and 18 inches indiameter, 3-inch tread, and J^-inch high flange. Thewheel base of the motor is 6 feet 5-16 inches, and of thetrailers 3 feet 9 inches. The platforms are 351 in num-ber, of which ten are motors. As it is necessary thatthere shall be as little slack as possible in the train, one 18 inches long, dovetailed and riveted with fifteen ?■■& inchSweedish iron rivets.
