f ruin with the Metro-politan Railroad, of Washington, D. C. The companys magnificent car house, 500 feet long, presented its entire length to the storm which camefrom the south. The entire building was first movedbodily nearly 25 feet, and then the roof was torn off, completely wrecking the structure. There were 52cars in the house, all of which were either damaged orwrecked. There were 19 cars on the street at the timewhich escaped serious damage. The wrecked cars are conductor, who was standing with his hands on the sidesof the doors looking in, was hurled forward and fell flaton the floor. Strange to say no one on the car washurt. Already the company has commenced rebuilding andwill replace with a larger building than before. Thecompanys loss is about $25,000. The Board of Police Commissioners, of St. Louis, upon complaint of several citizens, has ordered thatofllcers making arrests shall call a patrol wagon or walkprisoners to the station instead of using street cars forthe purpose.

WRECK OF 500-FOOT CAR HOUSE, METROPOLITAN RAILROAD, WASHINGTON, D. C. being repaired or replaced as fast as possible, and themanagement hopes to have the equipment all replaced in40 days. The companys splendid power house for-tunately escaped. Our illustrations, from photographsby F. W. Barnado, tell the story more forcibly thanwords. The were many narrow escapes. One such is relatedby Secretary G. B. Coleman, as follows: The storm was simply terrific, the worst ever knownhere, unroofing and blowing down houses like cornstalks. There were many hairbreath escapes. While oneof our cars was running up First street, a portion of oneof the tall buildings that line that thoroughfare, blew offand struck the car, knocking the entire rear end of thecar off, the car stopping as if it had been hit by a can-non ball. There were five ladies in the car and the The Bristol & Towesdale, Pa., Trolley Railroad isnearly completed. This will form one of the mostimportant of the suburban links enterin
