Henry, of the Federal Street & PleasantValley Passenger Railway, is the inventor of a radial andnon-oscillating truck, a description of which has beenlooked forward to for some time by a number of streetrailway men, and which is a radical departure from allestablished practice in truck building. The whole weightof truck and car body is carried by four semi-ellipticsprings which rest on the journal boxes and from which The change from winter to summer equipment has nowbeen completed on the majority of roads and the extrainvestment, time and expense involved in this operationis again brought to mind. Thepeculiar formation of the journal boxes is such that thewheels and axles can turn to conform with the radius ofvery short curves. At the same time the link suspensionof the truck tends to keep the wheels in line so that thereis little danger of jumping the track. D. H. McDonald,the master mechanic, reports that the truck is a tracksaver and that it is found that the life of wheels is muchlonger, not to mention the saving in power. Mr. Henryis to be congratulated on his success as a truck designeras well as an electric road manager. He has had abundantopportunities to study the qualities necessary to a prac-tical and successful truck and has apparently combinedthem in an efficient manner.
