on the level, andmake a schedule time of 25 miles including stops and slow speed oncurves and grades. The motors should be mounted one on each truck. The controlling apparatus should consist of the ordinary series parallelcontroller, worked by hand, and an air brake outfit of the regular West-inghouse type, with an air compressor operated by a separate motor au-tomatically controlled by the air pressure. Believing it to be absolutelynecessary to use air brakes on these high speed cars and trains, we havedesigned an air compressor with a special small motor to be placed in themotormans cab. When the air pressure reaches a point below normalin tl.e main reservoir, the current is automaticallv turned on, and the 362 (jiiticctS^mWay-j^y^^ motor pumps in air till the pressure is restored; then the current is cutoff from the motor. This air pressure may be made to operate a signalwhistle, and to force water from a tank under the car into wash basins, closets, and drinking faucets. s^^pHS^Pf^
