xiliary bus is provided for thebooster. The booster unit in the station consists of a Westinghouse niotor in section, spaced i5 in. centers, which form the tension membersof the concrete roof. The concrete for this work consists of onepari cement, two parts river .sand and four screened furnace sind-crs. The thickness of these roofs is 6 in. The floors are ofmacadam concrete construction. The total floor space of the building is 70,000 sq. ft. NORTHERN POWER STATION. The Northern Station is located at Salisbury and North SecondSts., one block east of the Broadway line and near tlie river, andis 3% miles from the Central Station, in a northeasterly direction.This is a brick building with stone trimmings ,302 ft. long by 140ft. 8 in. wide, giving two rooms each 297 ft. by 66 ft. inside. Theroof and floors are similar to those of the Central Station and, aswell as the foundations, were done under contract by the GilsoniteCi !istruction Co., of St. Louis. As has been mentioned the St. Lonis Transit Co. lias found itselfshort of power station capacity, and in order to meet certain ex-traordinary temporary conditions on certain lines Mr. du Pont hasintroduced a decided novelty in the matter of boosting the voltagefor feeding outlying lines. A temporary switchboard was in-stalled near the three 650-kw. units and they are used as boosters,the .speed being varied to meet the need for increased voltage. Dur-ing ihc past summer they raised the pressure on feeders suppliedby one of the older stations, a voltmeter connection being carriedfronr the bus at the station being fed, back to the temporary switch-lioard mentioned.
