At certainseasons of the year the company handles a large amount of stock-to and from the race track, which is delivered to it by connectingsteam lines at Rondout and Rockefeller. Other shipments handledby the freight trains include lumber, building material and rails.The freight train crews consist of engineer, fireman, conductor andone brakeman, whose duties correspond to those of men employedon steam roads. In addition to the service provided by these twoexpress cars, passenger cars with baggage and express compart-ments are operated between Evanston and Waukegan, in bothdirections, at intervals of 1 hour and 20 minutes, while all trains onthe Libertyville Division carry baggage and express. The trainscarrying express are so indicated on the time tables published bythe company. Both freight and express tariffs are published by the company,the freight rates being based on tariffs published by competingsteam lines and the express rates corresponding to those of compet-ing express companies operating over steam railroads. Special com-modity rates are published from time to time and general tariffswill be published by the company as soon as the size of the businessjustifies this measure.
