Fruit and leaf THE OHIO BUCKEYE (JEsculus glabra) Winter buds Five smooth leaflets compose each leaf. The flowers are yellowish green, with stamens curved and extended. They openafter the leaves in May, and the 3-valved spiny husk liberates the nut in October.
