The womb, Fallopian tubes, and ovaries are supportedin their mid-centre position in the^basin or pelvic cavitychiefly by a membrane, the peritoneum, in which theyare enveloped, and which is attached by its outer border tothe soft parts lining the side of the basin (pelvis), andto the other viscera, like a diaphragm. This membraneforms a broad fold on the right and left sides of the womb,and these folds are called the broad ligaments; it forms twonarrower and more cord-like folds behind the womb, whichpass one on each side round the uterine region to the cross-bone, and these are called the utero sacral-ligaments; twoother less distinct and slighter folds pass in front betweenthe womb and the bladder, and are called utero-vesical (orwomb-bladder) ligaments.
