All thought of breakfast was abandoned at once, and everybodylooked out for his own safetv. 86 THE YOUNG NIMRODS. The judge sprung for the nearest tree, which was about seven feetin diameter, and without limbs for at least twenty yards from the ground,lie made several attempts to throw his arms around it; but he might aswell have tried to clasp the dome of the Capitol at Washington. Hestuck to it for two or three minutes, and then ran for a tree that was bet-ter suited to an unskilful climber, and afforded him a safe retreat.
